PSST: there is no perfect way!

Articulating your experience of OCD is a challenge. We’re hopeful that these tips can help. Notice that these descriptions do not disclose content- that is up to you! Here’s to busting OCD myths!

  • “I have difficulty disconnecting from unwanted thoughts. I tend to think about these thoughts and perform behaviors repetitively in hopes of feeling better.”

  • “I am highly aware of potential catastrophes and find myself avoiding and performing behaviors to prevent these dreaded outcomes.”

  • “I am inundated with taboo thoughts that I find very distressing. This causes a cascade of stress that I attempt to reconcile with repetitive thoughts and behaviors that, unfortunately, only provide temporary relief but maintain my fears.”

  • “I am aware that my repetitive behaviors (compulsions) do not yield the results I seek; however, the distress I experience often feels too overwhelming to face and I fear that I will be irresponsible and something bad will happen if I don’t perform them.”
